RemmyChanter: Revivalist of the Yoruba Tradition
Remilekun Mariam Kasali Adelabu, widely recognized as RemmyChanter, plays a significant role in the revitalization of Yoruba cultural heritage with the connection between reviving the Yoruba language through Asatainment and Yoruba language diaspora education.
Hailing from Ibadan in Ònà-ara Local Government, Oyo State, RemmyChanter champions the torch of Yoruba traditions, employing her chanting skills to promote cultural significance globally.
Commencing her chanting journey in 2010, this pursuit gradually evolved into a meaningful profession by 2013. Through captivating live performances, RemmyChanter has successfully brought the richness of Yoruba tradition to various parts of the world, including the United Kingdom, Morocco, Dubai, Turkey, Ghana, Togo, Benin Republic, and various Nigerian states.
RemmyChanter is a crucial figure in safeguarding the Yoruba language and tradition amid imminent threats. She challenges the notion that Yoruba might vanish by utilizing chanting as more than just a cultural expression. Through a combination of dance, chants, and drums, Remmy captivates her audiences with a unique style, simultaneously contributing to the revitalization of Yoruba heritage.
Beyond her performances, RemmyChanter is the driving force behind RemmyChanter Asatainment, a rapidly expanding digital studio and social media-driven brand. As the Chief Executive Officer, she not only entertains but also serves as an inspiration for young individuals, emphasizing the significance of preserving their ancestral language and culture.
Over the years, Remmychanter and her team have entertained distinguished figures such as the Ooni of Ife, Alaafin of Oyo, Olofa of Offa, Olubadan of Ibadan, Onikoyi of Lagos, Akarigbo of Remo, Alake Of Egba, Olufin of Gbongon, Emir of Ilorin, as well as important individuals such as dignitaries, governors, senators, commissioners, and ambassadors. Their performances have been witnessed at more than 6000 events both locally and globally, captivating audiences of different cultural backgrounds. Remmy has further established her prowess in the field of chanting by creating over 15,000 jingles for individuals and royalty.
Not only is she a talented chanter, but she also possesses the qualities of a future leader, a role model, and a charitable person. Additionally, she has established the Care Givers Aged Foundation (CGAF) and is a member of Women in Management, Business, and Public Service (WIMBIZ), and Junior Chanter International (JCI). Currently studying at Pan Atlantic University, after previously studying at Offa Poly and Kwara State University with a solid foundation in Business and Entrepreneurship Management, RemmyChanter remains a cultural ambassador, role model to many, developer and trainer of chanters, dedicated to spreading the traditions of Yoruba culture. She describes her main objective as rejuvenating Yoruba Culture.
